Consistency is the Key to a good Customer Database SystemTweetDate: Feb 19, 2010 | Views: 151 | Comments: 0 One of the most important points made by a noted management guru Jim Collins during a recent industry conference was “the signature of mediocrity is chronic inconsistency." Quite true indeed and this is true in case of the most organisations who find happiness in the constant mediocre behaviour. This applied to the organisations and their database management systems. The most simple and yet effective customer database management is the key to a successful organisation. Let me elaborate this point a little further. It is not always wise to change your software vendor on a very frequent basis. When you will look at the track record of the most of the companies, you will find out that the most consistent companies have been sticking around with their database management systems for longer periods of time. And in turn, they got great return on investments. It should be implied in those cases also, where the vendor changes its product. On the other hand, the companies who don’t have share great relationship with their software vendors are likely to struggle with their user database and data management system. This theory might sound quite pedantic and axiomatic to many, but this is the truth. However, not many companies understand the importance of a string and consistent data management systems. Besides consistency, other very important factors that should be taken care of by organisations include their ability to put the most optimum usage of the database management systems. They should have a good idea as to how should they be leveraging the whole system and accordingly come up with a database program. Last but not the least; full support should be given to the personnel, who manage the database system of a company. If these points are kept in view, there are all chances that an organisation will grow better. You should be clear as to what kind of database should be used for your organisational setup. For this purpose, it is advised that you should sit with your software vendor and discuss the suitability of a certain data management system. Once you are convinced, you can install in in your organisation.
