Your computer might have given up the ghost but that doesn't mean you have to give up on it!

Unless you've been living in a cave for the past 20 years, you'll know that recycling is all that stands between us and environmental Armageddon. This being so, what is one to do when your laptop is turned off for a final time?

The simple answer is to add it to the week's rubbish. But this is to overlook the countless intriguing opportunities afforded by such an item. For example, if you have young children, why not send them off to school with their lunch sandwiched between the screen and the keyboard? You'll be sure to receive some admiring looks come parents' evening - if your little ones use on of the old laptops as a lunch box, you must literally have more money then sense.

And with the Olympics just around the corner, don't pop out and buy new table tennis bats - simply improvise with your clapped-out computer. With London Mayor Boris Johnson claiming that ping-pong is in fact a British invention, why not help popularise this new a national pastime?

And the ideas don’t end there. From hi-tech clipboard to deluxe doorstop, a 'resting' laptop should never be dismissed as 'dead'. Simply keep in mind all the tasks your laptop deals with when it's alive, then imagine how it might continue to be of assistance.
