When the sky starts to change into defile and rain starts to drop, it points out only one single thing – summer break is already ended. For children and parents, it always means business. Going back to school is always a challenge for both. Parents do focus on stuffs that needed by their kids for school and tend to forget about their children’s psychological readiness. So, for your delight here are some tips to help your children be physically and mentally geared up for school:
1. Bedtime. During summer vacation, most kids sleep anytime they want to and some might not be used to waking up early in the morning. As a result, waking up early will be a problem for them once school season starts. You parents can teach or guide your children gain a regular sleeping for at least two weeks before going to school. This method could help your children adjust their body clocks. You don’t want your kids feeling sleepy at the first day of school right?
2. Eating Schedules. Having a free schedule, kids usually eat whenver they are hungry, But we know that in school this will all change. They will be given enough time to eat their mealThey will be given much and enough time for food in which their appetite might not be used to. As a solution, parents could practice a regular eating schedule for their kids and stop them from eating junk food in between meals.
3. Study time and curfew. It might be hard for you as parent to regulate or enforce it to you kids but it will surely worth it; or it will definitely be worth it. Deal out at least 2 hours of study time after school will allow them to cope up with their lessons and be prepared for the next day. On the other hand, a curfew would be a great help to their health and will keep them well rested in preparation for the next day.
4. Clothes. This will also be an issue. Be sure that uniforms, underwear, socks and etc. - still fit your kids. Having a regular laundry schedule is a good thing as well. This is to avoid your children from running out of clothes to wear. Also, get them to practice the habit of preparing their uniform or clothes they destine to wear that night before, this lessens the rush time during the day. Fresh look would build up confidence to your kids upon going school
5. Talk. Parents everytime are asking their kids and they usually say “How was your day in school?” Parents never get the answers they want by using this question at the same time; children also get irritated when they are asked by that question. So instead try this method and be more specific in your questions like “How was English? What is the great thing in school?” this will surely give you more responses.
6. Partnership of parents and teachers. We know that there are childrens who dislikes Parent and Teachers. A good relationship and communication with the teacher will solve that. A positive parent-teacher relationship helps your child feel good about school and be successful in school and it also shows your child that he can trust his teacher, because you do. This is a positive outcome for your children to know that these two person are working together, it boost up their confidence as well because they feel that they are important. Remember, in school the teachers are second parents of your children.
7. Confidence. Build up your child’s confidence cause this will be an essential for their performance in school as well as in their social life. Helping them to be responsive like a simple high-five or flash card activities are a good techniques in achieving this. Having a wall of fame or keeping tabs on their achievements is a definite boost for them too. Also, giving them responsibilities could also help making them feel that you could trust them and they are growing.
8. Food preparations. The best action to this is asking your children what they want to eat or take them during your weekly grocery so they could pick the food that they want. Having easy-to-cook food is also a good thing to have around the house. You would not like your children to go to school with an empty stomach.
Going back to school doesn’t only mean that it’s the children task to do so but also you as parents. So, have yourself also as a parent mentally and physically ready for your children come back to school.
