The words “Tea Party” seem to be in everyone’s lips nowadays, most particularly with the American Presidential race just around the corner and the “Occupy Wall Street” protests becoming more than what was expected or even predicted. The Tea Party is a current subject of the media and not everyone seems to be knowledgeable about it and people may think it’s the historical Boston Tea Party. However, the current day movement is loosely based on that protest against the English monarchy.

The Tea Party of today is regarded as a movement of conservatives and liberalists, which supports protests against government issues like how the country’s finances are being handled by politicians, and the way the government demands taxes from American citizens just to keep funding soldiers who are out at war. But what’s so controversial to the media and the world is the country’s debt and how the current Obama administration cannot handle the situation. Coming right behind it is the argument on the Tea Party racism that seems to grip some of the more visible and vocal members running for president under the banner of the Republican party, Senator Michele Bachman and Herman Cain. Of course Mr. Cain will denounce any accusations of racism being an African American himself, but Senator Bachman is making waves with her refusal to acknowledge the gay community and any foundations and movements affiliated with it.

In a way, the LGBT community have accused the senator that she is racist in her views against them. The Tea Party is not without its usual bag of controversies, thanks to the Bachman movement that espouses it, but there are more issues which have angered many Americans who discover the lack of leadership inside the party as harmful to the country. However, even with the economic decline of the US, more people are supporting the movement especially those who are not satisfied with the present administration. The controversy behind the movement is building and has alarmed many, particularly when followers are increasing virally.

One example why lots of people are worried, is because the movement is so uncontrollable. There are some followers who have been arrested for vandalizing property and equipment owned by people who refuse to join their movement. There have also been some who have been met with harsh media disapproval for accusing President Obama as following the tracks of Hitler and Lenin. As of now, the Tea Party is a movement behind some of the more popular protests going around the country. The movement is gaining more followers thanks to presidential candidates from the Republican party. Note to self that although the movement is mostly promoted by members of the Republican party, it isn't a movement from the said party.

The Tea Party is largely concerned with taxes and the size of the federal government. Many of them express outrage at President Obama including racist signs, leading many to believe that Tea Party racism is driving much of the movement's sentiment.
