Why Insulate your home now?

A lot more people are aware of the fact that better insulation helps keep your house warm, should cut down on your fuel bills and helps towards the need to cut carbon emissions. The Government has committed to reducing the countries carbon emissions and is incentivising homeowners and utility providers to achieve these reduction targets.

Any new and self build houses will have to comply with the latest Building Regulations. There is a focus on Sustainable Construction and use of the latest building products. New houses are much better insulated than most existing houses, people are more aware ofRenewable Energy Sources and realise they go hand in hand with good insulation. This has encouraged the Government to improve insulation in old houses.

There are lots of Insulation grants available now from the Government and your Local Authorities, we had one of the coldest winters in the last 40 years in 2009-2010. Now is a good time to find out what is available. You can apply for a free survey and advice via the following link. http://www.government-grants.co.uk/

Grants for loft insulation, of around 50% and above, are available for all home owners and private tenants - whatever your income - and of 100% if you satisfy the eligibility criteria. Please note,  grants cannot be offered after you have insulation installed or if you do the work yourself. The installation MUST be carried out by an accredited installer, who will offer the grant at the time. If you apply here, an accredited loft insulation installer will get in touch as soon as possible.

There are grants for cavity wall insulation, also around 50% and above and available for all home owners and private tenants, whatever your income, if you satisfy the eligibility criteria. If you apply here, an accredited cavity wall insulation installer will get in touch as soon as possible.

You need to apply now as Insulation grants will not last forever. The current scheme is due to end in 2011, although a one year extension has been announced. It is estimated that all funding for loft and cavity wall insulation will cease completely by 2015. Grants can also stop and start, particularly on the free schemes.

Did you know eighty per cent of energy used in homes is for heating? Turning down your thermostat, installing good insulation and getting a more efficient boiler can help cut your fuel bills and your carbon emissions.

Why Insulate now?

Energy used in the home is responsible for more than a quarter of the UK's carbon emissions. Reducing the amount of energy you use for heating is one of the most important things you can do to help reduce climate change.

Is your loft insulation 270 millimeters thick?

More than half the heat lost in a typical home escapes through the walls or the roof. Installing loft and cavity wall insulation will reduce the heat escaping. Combined with a degree of draught exclusion, it should also cut your fuel bills every year.

Now is the time to Insulate your house, use the grants that are available, do your bit cutting carbon emissions and stay warm on those cold winter days and nights.
