Online Learning Fever

Date: Dec 1, 2009 | views: 591 | Comments: 0

Nowadays, we are all infected by the “www. Fever”. Almost everything could be done with the use of a computer and a reliable internet connection. Anything you want is just a click away. And as of now, online learning is a big hit to many students conquering about four million of the total learning population in the world, not to mention the fact that this number is growing at a rate of 30% annually. Amazing isn’t it?

But what’s the buzz all about? Why do these students flock to this so-called online learning environment? Take a look at the reasons that follow: First would be because the student can attend a lesson or a course perhaps, anytime and anywhere they wanted. It is very accessible; just make sure you have a computer and an internet connection ready in front of you and presto! You can start your classes while attending to your child, or go to work in the morning and attend to it during your free time, or maybe have fun travelling or do business while learning. Thus, you can also have access to course materials anytime you wanted.

Online learning also enables student-centered teaching approaches and also increases student interaction and diversity of opinion. This also allows the students to be exposed to knowledge and new technological skills.
According to users, participation online is a bit less intimidating than in the classroom, and the instructors here are more approachable. It also promotes camaraderie and facilitates team learning. This allows for broad spectrum content and gives everyone a chance to contribute to the lessons. And because there are no geographic barriers, students can find a diversity of course material that is usually only available online.

To sum all of these up, it all goes down to accessibility, flexibility and quality. Tough reasons aren’t it? That’s why we cannot blame people who preferred e-learning rather than the “brick and mortar” institutions.
